Sandplay,
The Sacred Healing: A Guide to Symbolic Process
by Kate Amatruda, Phoenix Helm Simpson

Sandplay, The Sacred Healing: A Guide to Symbolic Process
(1997, Trance-Sand-Dance Press: Taos) has been described as
"inspiring" by a reviewer for the National Board of Certified
Counselors and that "the authors give us nourishment for our minds, our
hearts and our souls" by Jungian analyst Kay Bradway, Ph.D. "The book
contains wisdom acquired through years of study, research, clinical work,
psychological theory and self-examination. I treasure this book and will put it
on the top of my "must read" list for new and practicing
therapists" stated an MFCC and a member of the International Society for
Sandplay Therapy. 'The photographs and charts were excellent aids in
contributing to my understanding of this complex subject. I have been shown
"how to tend my own garden" by the authors' gentle therapeutic hands
and wish to continue it by using this book." commented a Certified Special
Education Teacher. "Wonderful presentation, important for all clinical
psychologists who work with children, adolescents and adults," stated a
Licensed Clinical Psychologist. "This really is the best and possibly only
primer. As a sandplay therapist of many years, I am deeply impressed with the
straightforward, useful and intelligible language." stated a Social Worker.

Images of the Self : The Sandplay Therapy Process
by Estelle L. Weinrib
From an actual reviewer: Reviewer: Joyce Camuyrano
Cunningham, MS, MFT, CAMFT Certified Supervisor from
San Francisco, CA, USA
Within the context of the study of sandplay therapy IMAGES OF THE SELF is a
classic and in my opinion a must for any psychotherapist who owns a sand tray.
It is a text that will interest and inform both the beginner and the experienced
psychotherapist. Weinrib is masterful in describing this non-verbal modality.
Her skill along with lots of photos of patients' sandplays afford the reader an
in-depth understanding of sandplay therapy. In Part One of the book the author
describes sandplay and its analytic underpinnings. Some chapter titles included
are: A Free and Protected Space, A Comparison of Verbal Analysis and Sandplay,
Resistance and A Safe Outlet for Aggression. Part Two consists of a riveting
case presentation of a man in his twenties. Sandplay photos found on nearly
every other page make the case presentation flow smoothly. IMAGES OF THE SELF is
excellent!

The Secret World of Drawings: A Jungian Approach to Healing Through Art
by Gregg
M. Furth, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Reviewer:
A reader from Germany
An excellent, well written, concise, comprehensive and
clear introduction for professionals and lay people as
well, curious about and interested in understanding drawings. Actually, the best
book I have read in the field. I especially
appreciate, that it offers GUIDELINES in interpretating pictures, without
presuming to have/posess a set of rigid assumptions about the exact meaning of
any of the components (size, color, figure, motion etc.). It is a book, which,
however, must be read several times, most of all because of the amount of
information it containes. It is an absolute MUST, for everbody, fascinated about
and deligthed in deciphering the (mostly) hidden world of our uncounscius
Psyche!!!!

Foundation and Form in Jungian Sandplay
by Lenore Steinhardt

From Book News, Inc.
Tel Aviv art therapist and trainer Steinhardt begins by
outlining the principles, practicalities, and history of sandplay therapy and
explaining the importance of the specifically blue tray and other materials
used. While most accounts focus on the significance of the miniature objects
used, she concentrates on the self-created sand form, using photographs and
detailed case studies.

The Body: An Encyclopedia of Archetypal Symbolism
by George R. Elder (Editor), Archive for Research In
Archetypal Symbols
From
Publishers Weekly
This is an astonishing book, an important publishing event
and a significant sourcebook of body wisdom. Developed from the resources in the
Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism, this is a richly collaborative
volume, the product of years of research and thoughtful encounter by members of
the Archive. While volume one was organized around the mythic themes that follow
the solar calendar from cosmos and creation to death, transformation and
rebirth, this second volume focuses on the human body as the locus of the sacred
and as the source of deep psychological insights. Each topic is presented in a
four-page unit consisting of a full-page color illustration of an art work which
captures the archetype, an art-historical discussion of the artifact, an
archetypal commentary and a brief bibliography. The odd element of this
structure is that the art-historical commentary on the artifact is given equal
status to the archetypal commentary. As a result, the archetypal discussion is
not as rich as it might be, for the archetypal commentaries do not connect the
present iteration of the archetypes with past incarnations. Nevertheless, this
enormously useful reference book will be a welcome addition to the scholar's
library.

Inscapes of the Child's World: Jungian Counseling in
Schools and Clinics
by John Allan, Doris Olin
From Independent
Publisher
Jung's work is often regarded
as directed toward and beneficial to adults in the mid-life stage or older. In
Chapter I, John Allan does an excellent job of constructing the theoretical
framework for a Jungian approach to counseling children. Because Jung emphasized
the primacy of dreams, fantasies, and symbolic communication, and since children
seem to be a natural source of such phenomena, it is a wonder more work has not
been done. Allan's book offers a valuable antidote to overly rationalistic
therapeutic techniques developed for adults that are often transposed onto
techniques for treating disturbed children. Focusing on the world. of
imagination as the primary source of disturbance as well as healing, Allan
covers a wide range of problems and pathological syndromes. He also provides a
thorough, as well as methodical protocol for a therapist's choice of treatment
for a patient on an individual basis, or for patients in a group situation.

Ego & Archetype: Individuation and
the Religious Function of the Psyche
by Edward F. Edinger, Kendra Crossen (Editor)
Review:
Ingram
A study of the journey to psychological wholeness--a process
that Jung described as a conscious encounter between the ego and the archetypal
symbols of the collective unconscious. For contemporary people, Edinger asserts,
this encounter is equivalent to the discovery of God--and a critically important
experience for everyone.
